My name is Janna and I'm currently the chief meteorologist for WVVA in Bluefield, WV. I've been in love with the weather most of my life and I feel so fortunate to be able to share that love with viewers on a daily basis.
I got my first professional opportunity in 2006, at News 12 Traffic & Weather on Long Island in New York. At News 12, I was able to work on my forecasting skills and was given the opportunity to start broadcasting. When I left, I felt confident in my ability to predict various types of severe weather events and communicate daily and severe weather information to the public. I also felt that I developed a strong work ethic, and was proud of it..
During my time at WVVA, I've really been able to fine tune my craft. I spent two years as the morning meteorologist where I co-anchored a successful morning show that stayed #1 in our market. I was able to spend a lot of my time outside the studio with benefits, charity work and visiting classrooms around our DMA.
I was asked to stay on as chief in the fall of 2012 and have worked hard to make some changes to our weather department. We recently became the first StormReady Supporter in the state of West Virginia and I wrote and designed our station severe weather protocol and run biannual severe weather drills. We also host a yearly NWS SkyWarn class for the general public. In 2015, I won the AP superior weathercast award for our region.
I'm a true believer in teamwork and I consider myself a strong leader and hard-working member of the weather and newscast teams. When severe weather hits, I'm always working by either going wall to wall, live in the field, providing updates our website, social media or answering phones and taking viewer reports.
With 10 years of experience both on camera and off, I’d make an excellent addition to any news team. I love what I do and it shows in my work. My resume and demo are available here, as well as other video clips, blogs, web articles, pictures, references, etc.
